If I was a cat and my owners put a bell around my neck, I would do terrible, terrible things to their carpet and furniture.

Some people put bells on cats because they think it prevents them from wreaking havoc on the local bird population, but I've always thought that was pretty stupid, since it apparently isn't very effective. In fact, I've read somewhere that cats with bells become better hunters, since they learn how to move more stealthily.
Now, having a bell on your cat indoors ... that is a whole other level of stupid.
